Qatar an intriguing country and you can tell Mikolai definitely experienced the gamut of expat life here (the good, the bad, the over the top). Some of the stories blew my absolute mind! Love how everything in the book is broken up into sections - which helps makes it a fun read but also very accessible as a guide book for people actually moving to Qatar.

I lived for 3 years in Doha around the same time as the author. So much of what he said struck home, and add the irreverent sense of humor, it was a delightful read. Keep in mind his viewpoint is that of a young, single Westerner who apparently enjoys that particular style of social life, so if you're an older married Westerner such as myself, some of what he discusses you probably won't encounter (how much clubbing do you plan to do?).The book could have used a little more editing, but don't let that throw you off. Everything he said aligned with my experiences. Except for one thing: the food at the Champions sports bar at the Marriott, which he humorously dissed because his order never arrived, was very good. Best nachos and cheeseburgers in the country :)2 thumbs up!

Bought this book to read on the way to visiting an expat friend in Qatar. Expected your usual travel guide but found myself laughing out loud on the plane over there. Super fun read that opens your eyes to another side of the region. I left my copy in Qatar for my friend to read and he says it’s “hilariously, dangerously accurate” - so read it before it gets banned!

I found the book "thin" in content and depth. It's written in an parenthetical style with the narrow perspective of the reader. The author's perspective of Qatar is limited to an outsiders pessimistic view with little attempt to explore the culture and community more deeply. Although the book includes some helpful material, I found the book very disappointing.

An entertaining and often hilarious read that's not afraid to show the darker side of life as an expat in Qatar. Read it for entertainment or read it for survival if you're planning a move to Doha!

Entertaining read with some interesting background on this middle eastern country. I now have new respect for anyone who goes to work in these countries, comes back and is not an overweight alcoholic.The author finds the humours side of situations that would have me heading for the airport.

About the Author

Stuart McCrady is a Certified Engineering Technologist in the field of Electronics and Physics Engineering, as well as a Certified Professional Educator in the field of technical training for adults. He was involved in the design and implementation of more than 50 SCADA type projects. As his career progressed, Stuart acquired both more experience and more responsibility in the field of system integration and SCADA systems consulting. Stuart has served as programmer, project leader, project administrator, consultant, department manager, and SCADA system designer. Throughout his career, Stuart strove to establish programming standards and design methodologies that could be applied to any SCADA application. In the mid-1970s, he developed a program design and documentation system which he called FLOCODE, which resembled high level languages such as C, but was written in plain English. The purpose of the system was to allow the programmer to design software using English-like statements using structured programming constructs such as: If-Then-Else and Do-While/Do_Until. He applied this method to his own programming at both the high level language and the machine level language; this design documentation then became the comments and program description once the program was completed.Later, Stuart was involved in the establishment of a systematic tagging system for signal names which would work both for hardware signals as well as internal software points. In addition, a system of structured descriptions was developed for the PLCs which described the operations in simple English, but referenced key signals and operating parameters; this documentation served as the design document for the PLC programming. Stuart expanded this combination of systems into the complete design and documentation system which is the focus of his book: ‘Designing SCADA Application Software: A Practical Approach’. In addition to this book on Designing SCADA Application Software, Stuart has published articles in trade magazines, as well as presented a paper on the application of computer control systems in the water treatment plants at an American Water Works Association convention. In 2006, Stuart made another shift in his career, becoming a full time instructor/trainer. Stuart taught courses at the community college level and at the trade school level; courses included: electronics, residential wiring, digital logic circuits, communication networks, electro-pneumatic control systems, electrical motors and motor control circuits, and PLC programming. Since 2011, Stuart has been traveling throughout Canada and the United States, teaching PLC and HMI programming in cities across both countries. His extensive experience in the industry has served him well in the classrooms, as he is able to bring real world experiences into the classroom such that the students not only understand the programming material, but also understand how the concepts are applied.

Topics are presented in a good sequence but I felt that writers used uncommon words to describe specific subjects like in documentation chapter (3) the writer used word "Reference" for the components of documentation software and used "Database reference" while I preferred to use "Database reference document" or "Database Document" same as for SCADA workstation application reference while he can used "SCADA workstation application reference document" or "SOW document", also I don't know the reasons for using PPC as (Programmable Process Controller" instead of PLC which is more common to use these days. For chapter five using the term "Tagname and Signal name convention Structure" (TSNC) while easier to understand when saying "Tagname and Signal name Standard form" or "Standard phrase". For the above reasons I gave 4 stars, but in general book contents are reflecting author experience and good added value to my private SCADA library.

Author is very experienced and also a good writer. Very clear and logical explanations of all the workings of a SCADA system. Would love to experience his classroom teaching style.

I love this series. The characters are so likable and natural, and the mysteries are fun to unravel. The villain was pretty well disguised until the end, but it was the how and the why that had eluded me. Everything was all tied together very cleverly. As always I appreciate the way God is such a natural part of the characters' day to day lives without being preachy. Thank you again for a very enjoyable evening, Ms. Perry.

A lot of drama follows these three sisters, but then, we wouldn't have a story if it didn't. I was privileged to have won a two in one book which contained the first and last book in this series. Having been truly drawn in at book one, I just had to have this one to complete it.The Hampton sisters are each unique and their stories captivating as they come to terms with the mysteries surrounding each of their lives, and those involved in their growth, A little danger, a lot of love, and wonderful flow will keep you reading until the very end!Highly recommend.

What a great story. Keeps you interested with each page and lots of twist and turns. I don't like to say to much about a story as it can ruin the whole thing. That's why I rarely read anyone's review, they ten to give the story away and you either like a good story or you don't everyone has a difference of opinions. Marta perry did another good job. Mystery and suspense intertwined with family love and Christian values. Wow what a story. Already downloaded the third “Three sisters” book.

Not as good as the first one and the third is just a bit better. Like a romance novel where the girl ends up with the guy even though in the real world no way would that happen. No family can have all three girls go through the stuff these did.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Marta Perry is a fantastic Author, I have read 6 of her books now. Fromthe time you start one of her books you do not want to put it down until you are at the end. I felt like I as I read it I myself was part of the story, I could put myself in the storyline. Just a magnificent book.
