The characters were inconsistent - sometimes you really liked them and at other times, you struggled to want to support them - but it all seemed very realistic and more appropriate that books where people are either good or bad. Jende Jonga, an illegal immigrant from Cameroon, supports his wife, Neni, and their 6-year-old son, Liomi, doing whatever jobs he can find that do not require proof he is in the United States legally. Neni is in the country on a student visa and attends the local community college with dreams of becoming a pharmacist.The situation: Clark hires Jende to be his and the family's full-time chauffeur, paying him $36,000 a year for 18-hour days. Jende is beside himself with happiness and hope for the future.And then…Lehman Brothers collapses.This magnificently written story by Imbolo Mbue is told entirely from the points of view of Jende and Neni. Clark and Cindy's stories we learn from eavesdropping on their phone conversations while Jende drives them around New York City. Jende and Neni have very little, but they are bursting with dreams and hopes for the future. Meanwhile, Clark and Cindy are impossibly wealthy but have only faded hopes and squashed dreams. It is this contrast, even more than the differences of race, class and wealth, that sets up the story for the main plot when life for both couples irrevocably and tragically changes forever with the failure of Lehman Brothers.This remarkable story about the American dream—for those who desperately want it and those who indifferently have achieved it—is written with such verve and wisdom that it pierced my heart and soul. I highly recommend this book, which amazingly is Mbue's first novel. I eagerly await her second book.

This is one of the best books I've read in a while and I'll be recommending wholeheartedly to friends and family. Great insight on the lives of these characters, the struggles of this poor immigrant family and the struggles of this wealthy American family. Great reminder that regardless of our social status, we all face challenges.

This novel is based on a very current topic: immigration to the United States . It portrays the problems and emotions from the side of the immigrants. Although the u. S. Immigration policies should be followed, after reading this book , one feels the pain of those who truly believe that the US is the only land of opportunity and great promise. The disappointment that these people feel is painful!! It is truly a sad problem .

Neni and Jendi are Africans trying to make a home in America. They have two children, Liomi and Timba. They moved to America for a better life for the family. When Jendi lands a job driving a Wall Street Exec, he thinks that they will make it here. That is until he gets fired because of the economy. Lehman Bros, went down and the Exec lost his job too!The story is great and well written for a first novel. The author had a good story and used the characters to perfection. You got involved with each one and it helped in reading the story and staying in touch with the storyline.I would recommend it to my family and friends. Well done!

Also some comments on where it is used in real world, not just fabricated examples.

Scott's books are a great practical intro into using stats for yourself. As an engineer who uses a variety of analytics in my professional and private life, I recommend this book. Keep up the good work Scott.

This cookbook is great to have on hand for entertaining. All recipes are for small bite tasting dishes and the accompanying photos are really helpful for what the finished products will look like.There is an unusually broad spectrum of recipe types including Mediterranean, Scandinavian, Asian, Indian, North African, Middle Eastern, and the Americas. The recipes have varying degrees of complexity which lend to a wide variety of cooking comfort levels. A few recipes have specialized ingredients (example: squid ink) but most recipes have ingredients that are readily accessible at a good grocery store.Types of dishes include dips, bites, and desserts. There are also a few pages dedicated to entertainment planning.I recommend this cookbook to people who like to entertain.

We own a professional, upscale catering company in Anchorage, Alaska. By far - this is the best book on appetizers we have had the pleasure of reviewing. Different from the standard deviled eggs, pigs in a blanket, and bruschetta (which never holds up) appetizer suggestions from other books. Highly recommend it!

I live in a small town so many of the ingredients are often difficult to find in stores around me. Unless you live in a large metropolitan area I would not recommend.

Bought it as a gift and she really liked it. Quality paper etc.

To cover such vast territory in a breezy, easy-to-read manner, Cotsakos sacrifices explanations and theory. For example, he instructs the reader to take the book to a local computer retailer and show the salesperson his specifications for a computer system. The option chapter lists the terms you need to know to understand options, but does not define them, nor does it deal with how options are priced or traded. It does, however, give detailed instructions on how to fill out E*Trade's option order entry screen. There are some obvious problems with this approach. It teaches how to trade aggressively, without imparting the knowledge necessary to trade intelligently. As computer technology advances and E*Trade redesigns its screens, the book will quickly fall out of date. However, it will still be useful to those who already know most of what's in it, but want an accessible, comprehensive guide to fill in the gaps. 4-city author; 15-city NPR campaign. We were Paratroopers together with the 2nd Brigade Infantry of the 101st, Airborne Div. We were Screaming Eagles.We were in the states together, and went to the Nam together. We were in the same Company, we went thru the Tetoffensive together. We lost so many people, our friends and fellow soldiers, that they took our unit off of jump status,because we did not have enough qualified sky soldiers. Chris was an excellent field trooper, wounded and decoratedfor bravery.Besides being a hero and a solid citizen, he is very smart. I am very proud to call Christos my friend.

As others have stated the book is little more than a 200 page advertisement for e-trade.I read the book because I know very little about investing in the stock market and I would like to learn.Even as god awful new to the stock market I am, I learned almost nothing from the book. Many of his descriptions of the way things are "Why do companies go public?" were oversimplified to the point of being wrong.I went into the book with a bunch of questions and left will all of the same questions.At best the only thing the book does is convince you to invest money in the stock market through E-trade.If you are going to trade online, the $13 per trade commission E-Trade charges you is much higher than the $7/trade rate offered by Scottrade, or the $10/trade Ameritrade offers but you won't find that in the book.If you want to learn about the stock market, I would recommend instead Jim Cramer's 'Mad Money' or 'Sane Investing in an Insane World'.If you managed to make it here to read this review then it is a fair bet you already know everything 'It's Your Money' has to say. The book is really that worthless.

This is the first book of online investing I read. It is an older book but it is the Best first book to read before you risk your own money in the market. It is a great step-by-step guide that explains the different kind of trades. You can skip the first few chapters as they're related to setting up your computer and to access the internet.

I guess some applies but if your new to self guided investments consider how market dynamics have changed dramatically since this book was written .Also E*Trade has a new CEO -Still some good basic knowledge for short money & it makes a good bathroom reader for guests

Didn't know anything about online trading. This book explains it as described "step by step". Also got it at a great price.

For the price, this book is a great start for the starter investor. Although, it's outdated it is great knowledge. I received the package in a few days and the book was in great shape.
