This text is available from the US Government Printing Office for less money and with an expanded appendix. Both texts are deficient in their presentation of "Aid and Attendance" benefits which are better covered on line. Definitive guidance and counsel should be sought from your local Veterans Services Commission office. I was disappointed with this purchase. I would not purchase this text again, but I would think about the purchase of the GPO text for a secondary (but suspect) reference. I would not recommend this book to a friend, instead I would direct them to a Google inquiry for "Aid and Attendance" at va.gov followed by a trip to their local Veterans Services Commission office. It's good to see Chaosium getting back to topnotch books again. This one along with Unseen Masters, represents a "new wave" of Call of Cthulhu - as good or better than any of the stuff released in years.You can't really go wrong with this package, it's got background resource material for the Goatswood area and a nice bundle of scenarios that look like fun to run (I can't wait to spring some of them on my group! HEH HEH HEH) I don't want to give away any spoilers but there's an S&M club, and the "GUARD" at the club is such a wicked idea not to mention the dude who runs the place. Good to see Ramsey the man himself giving the introduction, read his Silent Children book if you really want to get chills!The artwork is decent, and lots of it. Plenty of handouts too, which are really important as far as I am concerned. One thing I could do without though is the side illustrations, they take up too much room that could maybe be used for information. But that's a small jibe compared to the value.

Having played in a CoC campaign by one of the authors (Steve Spisak) for several years, I can personally attest to the level of detail and playability of his work. This book is excellent and well thought out, as well as being eminently playable. 5 Stars.

I reviewed this book when it first came out. Since then I have come to rely on the straightforward, common-sense approach Drew Locher provides in this book. Everybody can make small improvements in their office processes, but when you combine the methods shown in each chapter - you can make a powerhouse of improvement that radically changes your business. Anything less than his is not LEAN, it's what Professor Emiliani calls "fake lean".I highly recommend Lean Office & Service Simplified. If you need to make improvements that truly make a difference to you office and customer service processes, this easy-to-read and apply book will show you the way.

The LEAN Office does a wonderful job of providing basic information on Lean for office and service company on how to applying LEAN in an office environment.The reader will find the tools, hand-on explanations as well as actual examples for office environments and information processing work.

As I started reading this book, I thought "the author is trying hard to demonstrate how techniques and tools from lean factories can be applied in an office setting". So I had a few reservations about the book structure itself.But, as I made progress through the chapters, I saw a lot of value in this approach. The chapters about functional applications are VERY useful. And the author clearly speaks from experience.I warmly recommend this book to managers in an office environment!

Most Lean teaching is based on factory models of production. Here, pragmatic and relatable situations that occur in knowledge work are described and Lean principles applied. This book will not make you a Lean expert, but it will supply useful tools and principles that anyone can apply to the office setting.

This book includes a lot of real life examples and application of lean. It even have a chapter on how to implement lean in different business areas.

Good for beginners to have some general ideas of Lean Office. Not in depth enough for use in the work place.

I applaud Locher's work in this book. It covers the central tenets of Lean in an office centric way, without delving too often back to the manufacturing toolkit, and utilizing great examples that focus on the office environment.Pros:- Excellent examples throughout the book, with many drawings, pictures, and other visual depictions- Covers all the main concepts of lean as applied to an office environment, from the wastes to visual management to accountability to daily meetings to standard work- Follows a sensible format through standard work, visual controls, waste reduction, and Kaizen.- Does not tout the author's flavor of the week or consulting business. Just the facts, sir.Cons:- I wish it were longer, with more details. That's a minor complaint, but illustrates how much I enjoyed this book and its content.

I first read the Tao Te Ching in college. Somewhere along the line I lost that copy so I decided to pick up this one (especially since it had such high reviews). This copy seemed much different than the one I read years back. And I am not just talking about the author's choice to use female pronouns as well as male pronouns in his version (incidentally - how close can one get to awareness of Tao if one allows oneself to get hung up on seeing "He" rather than "She" in the teachings?).In one portion of this "tao de ching: A New English Version" ("Version" is the key word) the author chooses to translate "When the Tao is absent in a country,/ war horses are bred on the borders" to "When a country goes counter to the Tao, Warheads are stockpiled outside the cities". This author has written his "modernized" version of the Tao Te Ching and he claims to have been open in this fact, supposedly by him using the terms "A New English Version". When one reads further one in the notes you see the author admitting he does not even know Chinese (so his interpretation of the Tao is from other translations - and how he thinks the lines should read for poetics sake, or P.C. sake, etc).At first I thought I would not write a review on this book. But when seeing the author admit to what I had suspected it made me feel like I really got ripped off. If you are looking for a translation of the Tao Te Ching do not get this author's book. The author respects the Tao but this is not the real deal. I will be purposefully losing this book and looking for a better translation.

I had no idea what to expect of this book when It arrived. I turned it over in my hands and it was clearly very short in length, so I decided to just read a few pages while I finished my morning coffee.One and a half hours later I had finished the book entirely, along with my coffee, and I immediately knew upon completion that I would read this book many, many more times in my life.It was a highly profound, dare I say life changing read that dramatically impacted my perspective towards my own happiness and how I interact with others. Written as a collection of very short, almost poem-like chapters, often each occupying less than a single page, this book is a masterfully crafted guide to find real happiness and fulfillment in your life. It is a tome that empowers you, humbles you, and leads you around the pitfalls that so many humans fall into throughout their lives.It is not a modern self help book with life-hacks, habit forming tips, or other such articulations, but rather a fundamental, deep, and moving look at what makes up a fulfilling life.If you are someone who has discovered mindfulness, explores meditation, or ponders philosophy, then this book is, without question, a must-read.And if you are more of a go-getter. As with so many books, we endure the scholarly and erudite reviewers who claim to know which text and translation is the most recondite, the most accurate, the most true to the original. I don't know about all that. I know Lao Tsu was so important to Asian culture and life, and I know this book makes me feel whole again with each reading. I slow down, and his true words align the iron filings in my heart.Let the educated debaters go on with their "Ten thousand things" arguing about translations and meanings. They miss the point. Get this book, make some tea, turn of the incessant rattlings in your brain and the screens in your home and relax to ancient wisdom that has influenced millions of hearts and minds for thousands of years...

This book is very confusing to read because of the way its been printed. There's no uniformity; Instead of having one verse per page and then a commentary section, there's several verses on one page with different types and sizes of font throughout so visually it looks very cluttered and crammed together and it's not enjoyable to read. It looks like a cheap, self-publishing project gone wrong. It's such an important text, it's disappointing that they didn't take more care to make it more readable.

My 2 yo grandson loves this book. I wish that it made more than one sound, but he doesn't seem to mind playing the same sound over and over so I gave it 5 stars. He want me to read it every time he spends the night.

My not-yet-two year old grandson loves this book and I often have to read it more than once. He can identify every truck by name. Yes, he does love trucks and this is book is one of his favorites.

My little grandson adores this book!!!! The sounds are so cool and accurate and the fold out pics are right up his alley. He is two years old and he simply LOVES it!!!!!
