This book is one of the few that will show you HOW-TO secure your system and not just why you should do this! Also, security forensics chapter is my favorite... I recommend this book for anybody who is interested in UNIX and wants to know what could be done to protect the box using only OS bundled capabilities. As a security administrator for a company on a budget I get used to only rely on freeware or open-source tools to protect the enterprise. This book showed me that it is possible to use only out of the box solutions to achieve the same results! I would recommend it for everybody who is prohibited to use freeware and open-source tools for information security. Great book!

Dr. Loza provides hundreds of hands-on, practical solutions for how to investigate suspicious hackers' activities, secure the system, or protect you on the Internet by using only "native" UNIX capabilities. I love to juice. I have been juicing off and on since the early eighties and own quite a collection of juicing books. Since our old juicer gave up the ghost we bought a new juicer and we also bought a new juicing book just to see if there is anything new under the sun. Not only are the pictures stunning and ever so inspiring, the recipes are absolutely delicious and well balanced. There are no crazy ingredients and complicated formulas yet there is a sophistication to the recipes that makes this book truly outstanding. Modern Juicing has become my favorite juicing book. Highly recommended!

I've learned things in never knew before about the specific benefits of say, cabbage (cholesterol lowering), cranberries (great for promoting oral health), daikon (for great digestion) and pineapple (contains bromelain - anti-inflammatory and digestive enzyme).The recipes, each provide a nice intro with specific health benefits. An enormous section of juices and smoothies to appeal to anyone, including special sections for kids. A great section telling you how to make your own healthy nuts milks and again the health benefits of different ingredients.So far I've made:Almond milk- good standbyCashew milk- which I learned is helps our bodies produce serotonin (welcome sound sleep). Delicious!Hemp seed delight shake- super packed with nutrition and delicious ( this kept me going all morning)Good morning water- delicious infused water I've been making regularly!These more info for doing cleanses, treating specific health conditions, making your own probiotic drinks like kombucha and recipes using pulp from your juices to make breads, crackers, even doggie treats. I got the kindle version but will consider purchasing the book as well. It's a great companion and resource for your health!

I bought this book because I follow Mimi Kirk on Facebook and I've loved many of the recipes she's shared. I've also been in a juicing "rut" and needed inspiration for new juicing recipes. What I didn't count on is that this book also contains great recipes for smoothies, many using super foods. And my favorite recipe so far, which made me drop everything and write this review: a chocolate smoothie packed full of healthy foods that tastes like it's sinful. But it's not. So delicious.

If you are getting into Raw; Her books ARE THE BEST!!! You will learn a lot, and try it for 21 days and see "the change within yourself". You will be amazed!!!

I bought this before doing a juice cleanse and it gave me tonsssss of juicing recipes to try. This made my juice cleanse a lot more fun than it would have been for sure. This is also one of my favorite things to gift to my friends that are purchasing a juicer/ wanting to make a healthy life change. The first few chapters go in depth about all of the beginner things you need to know for juicing-- that is, in addition to recipes, how to cleanse properly(If you're interested in that), differences between juicers, etc. :) Also, as with all of Mimi's books, the photography is just gorgeous and gives you a visual of her juice recipes. I am a visual person so I REALLY appreciate this quality about her books. :)

Weak. Does not mention biofilms or to use a ketogenic or near ketogenic diet. Neither Presciptions nor anti-bacterias work on fungus. Take a look at : Candida killing so sweetly by Thompson, Keto-adapted, ketoclaity or Gaps by Mcbride. Mr Scott is a great author take a look at Scotts better books: "How to survive in a world without anti-biotics" or Virtual Medicine.

The only thing that has ever worked for my husbands candida came from this book. There is even more information that we have never read before. This book gives you so much, many remedy choices to choose from, and new ideas, and then tells you how to go about finding them.No book is perfect or has every bit of info, but this is a solid and helpful book.It has even opened my eyes to the use of potassium iodide.

I was so excited to finally purchase this after having the solar system book. This book is warped cosmetically - honestly i should have returned it - and i am just done with this series. To actually send this book in the shape it was in to a customer is just unacceptable. It is so warped it doesn't close. Not a tiny gap but nearly a half inch gap. That is how bad it was put together.

I bought this book because my son and I both loved the solar system book of the same series. It was informative( as toddler books go) and the pictures were great. Just purchased “My Body” book as well. My son is a big fan of this book and im sure it will get lots of use.

Bought this for my twin girls that love dinosaurs. Their favorite part is the end when you get to roar like a dinosaur. These books are cute, colorful and informative. I intend to buy them all.

My 22 month old daughter absolutely loves this book!!! She wants me to read to her all the time. I don’t understand the appeal but she loves it and that’s all that matters. 😄🤣

Only giving 5 stars because my 2 year old loves this book for the pictures and what we make of the dinosaurs. It would be nice if this author did story and teaching in rhymes. The pictures are great for kids but the information can be over their heads. We just exaggerate our own scenarios and roars.

My two year old son absolutely loves this book. The colors and information are great!

I pre-ordered this because my son and I love the Solar System book by the same author. I can see us reading this one over and over, too! My first copy had a print error, but Amazon sent me a new one quickly. :)

I bought this for my friends son and it is adorable! The whole family is crazy about dinosaurs so it was definitely a hit. I loved the colors and illustration style they used. Plus there was an ankylosaurus in there which is my personal favorite!

Incredible story but I found it hard to get into until the second half. The author starts out explaining how he got trapped then spends chapters detailing his many climbing and rafting adventures in which he pushed himself and took great risks to himself (and others). This was almost half the book, told in great technical detail with little emotional content. I skimmed over most of this and almost stopped reading the book.I have read other books in this genre- Into Thin Air, 6 Below, etc which include technical climbing detail but it was understandable and necessary to the larger narrative. Here it just seemed to be filler- as though he had to recount every adventure and close call he had up until the final one.The story of his entrapment(second half) increasingly dire predicament, his thoughts and description of how he finally escaped WAS an amazing and compelling story.

I felt like I was in that canyon with Aron. He created a mental picture that made me feel as desperate to read more to free him from the boulder. I am glad he made it out and his story inspires me in so many ways. I am glad to see he is striving to be a beacon of hope for those who feel their life is trapped. The only thing I would say lagged for me was the long flashbacks to other adventures. Each was unique and a story worth telling, but the stories may have been better suited to stand on their own. I found the length of those chapters to be distracting. But overall, it was an epic read. Aron is a unique individual. I am glad I got to know him a little through his book.

His account of the ordeal and his eventual decision to save himself by amputating his right arm is documented in this well-written (and surprisingly funny) memoir.My ThoughtsWhen watching 127 Hours, I was absolutely mesmerized by Ralston's predicament. (It didn't hurt that Ralston was portrayed by James Franco and the movie directed by Danny Boyle.) After watching the film, I wanted to get the full story about what Ralston had experienced. Did he really have a vision of his future son that bolstered his courage? Did he really talk into his video camera during his entrapment? Why had he made such a fundamentally stupid mistake by not telling anyone about his whereabouts? The book answered all these questions and provided much more detail into Ralston's personality and background.In fact, after reading the book, I'm not completely surprised that Ralston found himself in his predicament. In the book, he recounts several near-death experiences he faced during various other outdoor pursuits (from almost drowning in the Grand Canyon to being buried under an avalanche). Ralston's whole life was (and is) about pushing himself in the outdoors--often in ways that others might consider foolish or overly risky. In addition, solo adventuring was nothing new to Ralston. At the time of his entrapment, he was pursuing his quest to make the first solo ascents of all "fourteeners" (mountains over 14,000 feet) in Colorado. The one line in the movie that stuck with me--"This rock had been waiting for me all my life"--really sums up Ralston's life. (I may be misremembering the exact line but it is something fairly close to this.)Did he leave the canyon a changed man--aside from the obvious loss of his right arm? Spiritually, Ralston matured--coming to a new appreciation for life and his loved ones. What the experience didn't do was dampen his enthusiasm for outdoor pursuits. Working with prosthetics and climbing companies, Ralston designed a prosthetic arm for himself so he could continue rock climbing and mountain climbing.The book is surprisingly well written. After all, just because you have the guts to amputate your own arm and survive for five days in a canyon with limited food and water doesn't mean you'll be able to tell your story eloquently. But Ralston (who was an engineer before quitting corporate life to pursue the outdoor life in Colorado) seems to be a true Renaissance man--crafting a well-rounded, eloquent and often amusing account of his life, philosophy and the accident changed him forever.Finally, I must mention that the book includes a collection of full-color photographs of Ralston before, during and after the accident. I had a rather morbid fascination with these photos (including the one of the severed arm immediately after the amputation), but they really did add to the story. It was amazing to see the exact place where this took place and what Ralston looked like during his entrapment. I also need to give a shout-out to the filmmakers for seeming to recreate Ralston's predicament, clothing, and equipment down to the smallest detail.Recommended For: Readers who enjoy gripping and well-told adventure/survival stories, fans of the movie 127 Hours, and anyone looking for real-life survival story that demonstrates what people will do to survive.

I don't ever want to be too hard on a book, because I enjoy the act of reading regardless (usually) of the content. I have always been enthralled by this story, and followed it pretty closely in the news. I expected the book to be an insider view of what Aron dealt with while trapped by the boulder. Well, that story is in there, but so is a lot of fluff. Aron tells story after story after story of his climbing prowess, usually about something death-defying. In fact, reading the book, it's amazing he lived long enough to get his arm trapped. The stories tend to come off in a braggadocios manner, like Aron is trying to prove how awesome he is as if people are out there saying he's not. Reading about his time trapped in the canyon was thrilling. It is a great story that involves facing death and the will to survive against all odds. The stories that take place outside of the canyon, even his recounting of his friends and family back home preparing to search for him, are painful at best. The book would have rated at 5 stars if all of the fluff had never been added.
