A super history of Houston's prestigious neighborhood. It's only flaw is it ends in the late 60s and not through 2013. The homes are much larger built on double lots--tear two houses down and building a new 15,000+ sq. ft. mansion. But, the history is accurate with, I seem to remember, one error, that only one who really knows RO. What makes this subdivision so great is that it is the largest of its kind in the U.S.The only other flaw I found, is that so much history was omitted, but its greatness is the personal touch--pictures of young debs, families, and leisure times at picnics, children in the back yard, and family photos we normally would never would have seen.For me, it was a trip back through history, even if before my time, but the people in the pics are not.I did have to laugh that RO was the place for every man. Well, this is depression days and by every man is a top-notch lawyer, doctor, Company Executive, Banker, oilman and/or successful Wildcatter, then yes, it's the neighborhood for every man. Just a great bit of humor and and a license to advertise a little falsehood. If you can put this into context, in the late 1920s and 1930s, the minimum size lot in "normal" RO (not tall Timbers or Country Club Estates) was .75 acre and price was $10K. Good luck.

An insightful book about the beginnings of an elegant, neighborhood in the early days of Houston. I am a native Houstonian, and loved the book for it's historical account of a place that always was a mystery in my lifetime. 5 stars to the seller!

Looked like my kind of book, but Harvey left it in ruins.

While interesting, it was a little more fluff than I cared for. However, definitely a must read for any Houstonian.

I have read every book Dianna has written, they are all fun and I cant wait to read more. The Bessie books are my favorites, followed by the ghost series and then the sisters but they are all great. She brings the area to life. We plan on a holiday in the uk so I can visit the Isle if Man! All because of these great books

I love these Markham Sisters stories. This one is abrupt. A good story but ended with a feeling it needed another chapter or two. It needed more development about the picture and bracelet found in the carriage house and the two couples in for the weekend. It just felt unfinished to me.

I agree with lovestoread. This book feels unfinished. I also think the mystery is not much of a mystery. The crime is vandalism with no interesting motive for the vandalism (Bricks through the front windows of three businesses.)

Another good book about the Markham sisters.

Be careful and note for whom this book is intended.It is supposed to be a concise introduction to psycho-linguistics for people training to be ESL and EFL teachers.I found it way too concise--that is, lacking too much.It is also out of date on some key issues, such as categorical perception and the existence (or non-existence) of the phoneme.This book could have been developed in two different directions, either of which might have benefited the intended readership. (1) It could have included about 50 more pages of the history of related fields and their development and then explained psycho-linguistics in terms of the issues that concern ELT/TESL/TEFL/TESOL the most: second language acquisition, listening perception, articulation, and reading processes, etc. Or, (2) it could have given a somewhat more complete and technical explanation of psycho-linguistics.Overall, it was a disappointing book to read. There are far better introductions to psycho-linguistics (such as Garman, CUP). Meanwhile, academics in ELT ought to stop playing around with superficial approaches to 'cross-disciplinary studies'. Instead, they ought to face up to the bleak reality: theirs is a field run by a big business mentality. Intellectually speaking, ELT has never really got past a superficial understanding of structuralism and behaviourism, which might explain the amateurish efforts at producing 'research' that now pollute most journals that language teachers are supposed to take an interest in.Finally, the lack of an index is inexcusable.

this is ok... since the length is short, (it's just "introduction" to ) I couldn't expect it to get deep... That's why I'll buy another longer or deeper version of it.

The Oxford Introductions to Language Study are known to be very dense, giving birth to many ideas on each turn of a page. "Psycholinguistics" is not an exception to this rule.The book's structure is very well organized, allowing the reader to focus on his own interests. There are four sections as usual (Survey, Readings, References and Glossary). The Survey is the core of the text. In the Readings section, the reader is asked some interesting questions that may be the subject of hours of discussion -- this is one of the book's qualities. The References, however are usually to quite expensive technical books (with a few exceptions), so that the reader is disencouraged to go further on his studies. The Glossary is quite clear, but you keep going back and forward through it as the entries interlink.This is a book for you to think about language. I do highly reccommend it if you are into linguistics and you want to experience a flavor of psychology and even philosophy.

What if, what if... This story broke my heart. One thing out of many I took away from this is the incessant blame one gets when they claim something happened to them, or in the case of the camping trip.... sure they went on Federal Land, and that’s a side debate for later, but the action by the Air Force afterwards was completely unwarranted- they treated him like a suspected terrorist. When we think of crack pots it’s easy to single people out like Mr. Lovelace because their story doesn’t fit our own perfect interpretation of “how things should be”, but sometimes the truth is the men and women who claim to govern us, and who “knows what’s best” are the real crackpots. With so much evidence that transcends millennia, why is it so easily dismissed? Sometimes our enemies are the ones who keep telling us to “go to bed” , “your government is in control”. It’s BS, no one is in control, we are marooned on a blue space rock with no hope. Take care of each other people, and try to listen to one another. It’s all we have. Thanks Mr. Lovelace, I would sure like to punch Brad in the face, but he’s probably dead and being churned into worm food by now. Take care.

Incident At Devils Den was simply riveting!Mr. Lovelace articulately conveys his personal experiences and innermost feelings regarding his vast and rich history of extraordinary events.Documentation and preservation of evidence is part and parcel to any serious investigation. The immense treasure trove of evidence made available to the public is truly compelling.The heartfelt dedication and determination required to write a book of this nature is evident, especially when the author was advised to remain silent.With much gratitude, wishing you the health and strength to continue to share your work.

The events described in this book make it clear (to me) why disclosure would not be in the works anytime soon. While I believe people would be accepting of benevolent visitors, there would be pure terror if this scenario were found to be true.I have mixed feelings. My desire to have proof of extraterrestrial visitors is outweighed by a hope that they would not be as described in this book. If so....what are we but mere lab creatures being experimented on?A great read. I would recommend.

This is an intense story of one person’s lifelong experiences with aliens. Each reader will form his/her own opinion on whether Lovelace is telling fact or fiction. Interestingly, this book focuses equally on the reactions of his family, friends, and the military, and how he responded. This is a book about American culture as well as a memoir.Lovelace has a natural narrative ability. I cringed when I read how his parents and sisters reacted when he was a boy telling them about the spaceship. Granted, their reactions were likely typical for that era and for our society at that time. Still, I cringed.He went to law school and rose in his profession to eventually become an attorney general. He married, raised a family. Only after retirement at the age of 64, has he come forward. Given the skepticism in our society, it must have taken courage.So, read this compelling story and form your own opinion. It’s a page-turner. I suspect Lovelace has more to say, though.I gave this 4 stars because of the spelling errors.

I don't usually purchase books about alien abduction, but when I heard the author's account on the Fade to Black radio show I decided I wanted to know the rest of his story. Reading his account was just as compelling as hearing it--if not more. I would have read it in one sitting, but due to other commitments, I had to stop after forty pages. When I did come back to the book, I finished it as I simply had to see the story to the end. I would highly recommend this book to those who are interested in the abduction phenomena. I do hope that the author finds some relief from the drastic change in health he has endured. Speaking out, it seems, has its consequences.

Mysterious Universe podcast tipped me off to this book as well. Would love to hear Terry as a guest on their show. Captivating account of seemingly true events that line up with so many other eyewitness accounts. It's amazing how so many eyewitness accounts on a global scale can be discounted and brushed aside so easily (let alone the physical evidence uncovered in this book). While the book does have a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, that's not the point. The point is to sound the alarm that something is going on right in front of us and we are too closed-minded, blind, or afraid of judgement to pursue it further. I wish Terry had said a little bit more about Toby's eventual demise, but I'm sure it will come up in his interviews.

Never been interested in this type of book before, but something about the author and the reviews made me give it a try. Now I am glad I did. As fantastic as the story sounds, the author sounds completely creditable. All I can say is read it for yourself, then you decide.

I highly enjoyed this independently published account of alien abduction and government witness suppression. Lovelace's narrative echoes many other military witnesses who've experienced unexplainable and downright strange aerial phenomena. His experience suggests a real government long-term effort to suppress witnesses and evidence to UFOs. And Lovelace has the x-ray evidence to prove that something anomalous really happened to him. His story even contains the famed, proverbial "women in black" who continue to haunt him with thinly-veiled threats and unwanted appearances in his life.
