The questions in this book are a bit more elementary than what I saw on the exam, but I still found it very useful for letting me know what to expect. There were some questions on the actual exam that were significantly more difficult than those in this book, but that was the exception rather than the rule. Definitely take some extra time to find more math questions to study as that's where it's most obvious that the questions were tougher; however, the math problems in this book are a great starting point for preparing.

Sure it can brush you up on critical thinking and math, but watch out when taking the tests, some of the answers are wrong (some of the answers in the back are not only wrong but not even related to the question in the test).

Several of the answers in the back of the book are incorrect. The math on the actual TEA exam is so much harder than any of the questions in this book. Works as a decent starting point.

This book is no help when it comes to preparing for the Treasury Enforcement Exam, Especially the Math section. The math problems in this book didn't even come close to the actual exam. This book made the math look like high school level math. The actual test is literally CPA level math and you only have about 1 minute and 30 second per question. I sugguest you get another book because I know this one is a big waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!

The latter contained the best explanation of the Higgs that I have read. This new book requires less of a technical background to understand. It is the easiest to read.“Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs” combines stars, galaxies, comets, meteors, particle interactions, and of course dinosaurs. What could be better? The book is well written and totally fascinating. We know of the existence of dark matter by its effects on ordinary matter, in particular, through the rotational speed of galaxies, and also by its role in the gravitational lensing of light. Dark matter permeates the universe. There is five times as much dark matter as there is ordinary matter. We also think that the dinosaurs died 66 million years ago when a large meteoroid, e.g., comet or asteroid, crashed into the Earth.Is there a connection between dark matter and the extinction of the dinosaurs? Did a dark matter disk lying in the plane of our galaxy nudge the meteoroid into a collision course with the Earth? As an atomic/nuclear physicist I am captivated by the idea that dark matter may form atom-like objects. Once you have self-interacting dark matter, everything else follows: the galactic disk, period passage of the solar system through the disk, the meteoroid nudge, and the tragic end of the dinosaurs. However, I think that we will have to learn more about dark matter. Satellite observations of the motion of stars may tell us about the disk of dark matter. More about the nature of dark matter may be revealed at the LHC or at the bottom of a gold mine in South Dakota, a land once ruled by dinosaurs.

This is another very interesting book by Lisa Randall, theoretical physicist at Harvard University. The book is divided into three main parts: The Development of the Universe, An Active Solar System, and Deciphering Dark Matters Identity.In the first part, we are introduced to this thing called dark energy – something that remains constant over time as the universe expands. That's why this type of energy can be called a cosmological constant. We can determine the existence of this stuff via gravitational lensing, the characteristics of the Bullet Cluster, supernovae measurements, and the study of the microwave background radiation.- all explained by Randall. This is important stuff, because dark matter makes up 69 percent of the energy in the universe. We are also given here a history lesson on the universe starting with the Big Bang, for which the author provides us with ample evidence of the event's occurrence. Later, we see the development of stars and galaxies, and how the competition of radiation and matter brought this about. Dark matter also played an important role here.In the second section, we get an introduction to meteors, asteroids, comets, and the planets. Associated with these objects are the Kuiper belt and the Oort cloud. There is an excellent primer on how to determine the edge of the Solar System, and an introduction to near-Earth objects. The discussion continues into the five major extinctions that have occurred starting with the Ordovician-Silurian period about 440 million years ago. There were others before this, but these had a major impact on life on Earth. It is the last one, called the K-Pg extinction, that is responsible for the final blow to the dinosaurs, and the author elaborates on this in her book. Actually, it all began with Walter and Luis Alvarez back in 1980 when they discovered a layer of iridium dating back to about 65 million years ago. Over the years, other evidence solidified the findings, such as the discovery of other rare metals, rock droplets called microkrystites, tektites, and other evidence. Eventually the crater at Chicxulub was found clinching the case.By part three, we are now deciphering the mystery of dark matter. There are a number of possible paradigms for what dark matter is composed of. One prominent candidate are WIMPS. Some others are axions, neutrinos, machos, and asymmetrical dark matter models. Finding the right candidate is the difficult part since “today’s searches rely on a leap of faith that dark matter, despite its near invisibility, has interactions that are sufficiently substantial for detectors built from ordinary matter to register.” We have direct detection method, such as cryogenic detectors, and those that employ noble liquids. Then there are the indirect detections methods that involve looking for the signal that would arise if dark matter particles annihilate with dark matter antiparticles transforming the energy produced into something visible. The author discusses some discrepancies uncovered in the search for dark matter, such as the core-cusp problem, the missing satellite problem, and the too big to fail problem. Further chapters discuss an interesting hypothesis of the author called “double-disk dark matter,” (DDDM) and also something called “partially interacting dark matter,” where you have a small component of the dark matter that interacts through nongravitational forces.So how is all this related to the dinosaurs? Well, according to the DDDM theory, our galaxy would contain two types of disks, the dark matter disk and the visible matter disk. As the Solar System oscillated through the dark matter disk as we moved through the galaxy, gravitational forces could have slung “comets out of the Oort cloud so that they periodically catapulted into Earth, possible even precipitating a mass extinction.” The Oort cloud is a cloud of icy bodies found beyond Pluto. Who would have known?

Lisa Randall’s book is an interesting, entertaining and fun journey of a speculative new scientific idea from its first inception through the scientific process to the proposal of experimental tests. It was impressive to see the scientific rigor that is applied to investigate all possible implications and all conceivable alternative explanations. Yet the book is much more than that as it explains the current understanding how the universe evolved, galaxies and stars formed and how all of this is connected to (and by) dark matter and ultimately our life here on earth.To me this was not just a book about the idea how dark matter could have contributed to the demise of the Dinosaurs, it is a detective story and a view into a scientific mind working through all aspects a new scientific theory. And it was actually fun to read. Many analogies and funny anecdotes made it easier (at least for me) to understand the science and there are also tons of fun facts about science and our society in general.The book was highly praised by two reviewers of science magazine (The dark side of the universe, Jan Smit and Renske Smit, Science 23 October 2015: 390. [DOI:10.1126/science.aad2604]) and Lisa Randall points out clearly what are speculations, proven facts or established theories and makes this easily understandable for us non physicists.Yet here we are again: I see this in many science book reviews on Amazon. There is always the annoying “I give this zero stars” review without any meaningful explanation. Then there is the usual guy who has his own “theory” how the world works. The “If you happen to believe in dark matter…” is the dead giveaway.I rate this book five stars because it’s an entertaining read and scientifically as correct as a book for non-scientists can be (just look at the positive reviews in the scientific journals).

I love that there is an image of every recipe so I can make sure that what I am baking is even close to being right.I make a triple batch of the M&M cookie dough (Page 110) about once a month. After the dough does it's time in the fridge, I dish all of the cookie balls out and freeze them. My husband cannot be trusted with cookies, so I hide the dough balls under bags of frozen peas to throw him off. It does give me the advantage of pulling out 3 or 4 cookies and popping them in the toaster oven when I just need a few. They are delicious and it is always a request from my friends when we have get togethers.Her website is wonderful and inspiring. She is also one of the nicest people I have ever met! She is very kind and will help you with a baking question or issue that you encounter.I haven't had a chance to bake a lot of her recipes in the book because of the high demand for the M&M cookies. Her and I share a love for funfetti so I am hoping that soon I will have time to try a few of those out!The book is very well written and she has really helpful instructions in every recipe. This is the perfect book for someone who is starting to bake or is just a fan of beautiful, whimsical desserts!

I have a sweet tooth, I admit it, and on top of that I LOVE to bake. I find it relaxing. Cupcakes are usually my go to, but the picture on this new cookbook was so enticing we had to try it.+Glazed Lemon Loaf-AMAZING! Now, I will say the glaze is VERY sweet. I was actually worried it might be a bit overly tart for my boys, but it was the sweetness they remarked on. So, for next time I will just make a bit less of the glaze. I left part of the loaf free of the glaze, and I thought it was wonderful like that. Great with my coffee in the morning!+Cinnamon Roll Blondies-when I my son asked me to make these and I realized I had everything in the house already, I was sold. I LOVE a good, warm blondie, and these were wonderful! I like that cinnamon addition, and so simple to make.+Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies-Cookies are NOT my thing. I usually leave them up to my husband, but since this is what drew us to the cookbook, I wanted to try them out. And my son was begging me to make them. And...it worked! I admit, I was probably spending too much time watching the cookies as I didn't want to overbake them (usually my problem) but, doing so allowed me to get them out just in time.Of the 75 recipes in the book, I probably want to try out about 70 of them! That's how simple and yummy everything sounds! Best baking book, I've bought in a long time! In fact, I think I am going to order a few for gifts!

The recipes are clear and straight-forward and each recipe has a picture, which is something that I personally like in my cookbooks.It is so difficult to try and pick a favorite recipe from this book, as they have all been excellent. I think I have made the Nutella stuffed Cinnamon Sugar Muffins about 39692726 and I can easily eat all the muffins by myself, as they are so tasty. I also recommend the Cookies 'n Cream Cheesecake, Marshmallow Swirl S'mores Fudge, Cake Batter Chocolate Chip Cookies, RainbowChocolate Chip Cookies (people ask me for that recipe whenever i make them!) and the Pumpkin Granola Bars.If you don't yet have this cookbook, do yourself a favor and buy it now!

very good cokbook and i love that all the recipes includes grams as well. the recipes ive tried have all been big hits with my friends. i only wish that there was a bit more variety in recipes. for example, in the cake section there isnt a straight up chocolate or vanilla cake. theres vanilla strawberry, chocolate banana, and then its cheesecakes and key lime pie, etc. about 1/2 of each section is fruit based recipes, and as someone who dislikes most all fruit filled baked goods, its a bit disappointing.

I stumbled upon Sally's website and fell in LOVE!! This book was on my wishlist for quite a while and I was finally able to get it. Sally's recipes are simply amazing! I bake all the time and just switch out the ingredients with organics and get nothing but compliments on my deserts! People actually request certain dishes for me to make over and over again. My 4y/o saw the cover and immediately said "Mommy when are you going toi make those cookies? They are my most favorite in the world!" I couldn't be more happy to oblige her :)

I bought this to use with some of my adolescents who struggle with depression in therapy sessions. Most of the students feel it reads like a dictionary and is not very engaging.

My daughter read this book while in an acute psychiatric care facility and she really connected with it. I read it at her request and I am very thankful that I did. I will never be able to understand how it feels to be a teen girl with depression. But now I can recognize how she is doing and be that trusted adult and friend that she needs.

This book provides an excellent "insider's" view of how it feels to be without hope. There is no worse place to be in life. Teens who have overcome this tragic state share their experiences with a sensivity and honesty that can be extremely useful to help parents understand what their child is suffering and help teens truly see that they are not alone, that their experience can be understood and dealt with. I recommend this book as a useful tool for anyone who works with teenagers in any capacity.

In When Nothing Matters Anymore, Bev Cobain offers a teen-friendly reference guide to adolescent depression, complete with self-help suggestions, counseling resources, and case studies of teens who sought help for their illness and now lead "normal" adolescent lives. Cobain is a credentialed author: a certified registered nurse, a mental health professional, and a recipient of the National Mental Health Association's Green Ribbon Award for efforts on behalf of teen depression awareness; however, the book reads like Cliff's Notes of a more comprehensive text - as if Cobain simply compiled the bullet-point lists, sidebars, and quick-reference statistics from an American Psychiatric Association web listing for teen depression. When Nothing Matters Anymore relies little on Cobain's personal observations and extensive experience, and too much on peppy, inspirational messages from its case study teens.The book is structured in two parts: What's Wrong? and Getting Help and Staying Well. What's Wrong? is primarily diagnostic, providing a checklist for the reader to determine whether he or she is depressed, explaining the varieties and causes of depression, and outlining the correlations between depression and chronic illness, sexual abuse, sexual identity, drug use and addiction, eating disorders, and "perceived differences" from peers. Getting Help and Staying Well highlights treatment options, suggests ways to seek help from family or trusted adults, and lists self-help activities for readers undergoing treatment. Both sections include "Survival Tips" that a health professional might suggest to any teen: Get Exercise, Have Fun, Eat Good Food, etc. There are some practical suggestions, like journaling and creating mood charts, and there is a chapter dedicated to the important topic of teen suicide, but the book as a whole rarely digs below the surface of the illness and underestimates its audience's desire (and perhaps ability?) to understand depression more fully.One aspect of the book that seems borderline inappropriate is Cobain's ad nauseam referencing of her cousin Kurt, the popular lead singer of grunge band Nirvana, whose suicide shocked the MTV youth culture in 1994. Perhaps this approach is an effective way of securing "street cred" amongst teen readers, but this hook feels opportunistic at times, particularly in "A Letter to Kurt Cobain," a three-page, sappy, metaphor-heavy eulogy in which Cobain rues that Kurt's handlers wouldn't give her the access that could have prevented his suicide. I understand the intent is to show the readers that she cared for someone they cared about and saw the beauty of his music and the tragedy of his death as they did, but to a non-teen reader, it rings hollow. Had Cobain been close with Kurt, a reader might not bawk at this inclusion, but she mentions that she did not know Kurt "personally," a fact that makes the multiple, casual mentions feel like name-dropping.

Perfect book as a guide for my niece. She and her mom loved the book/workbook so much that they shared it with the other girls in my neices inpatient. My sister could not say enough about how perfect this was!

I liked the book, the supportive and easy-to-read style, but some of the values it expressed were not consistent with my own. For this reason, I did not let my teen, who I had purchased the book for, read it.
