Wow, where to start. Let me first say that I was waiting for this sequel like a kid at Christmas. I even pre-ordered it so I would get it as soon as it was available and then stayed up late checking my kindle until it appeared and at the risk of being exhausted at work, I stayed up and read front to back all night long. Well, the happiness I felt at 2am was long gone by the time it was 5am and I'd finished reading this book. It was nothing like its predecessor "Bared to You" which was a wonderful read with strong, mature characters who were interesting and pushed you to the point of not wanting to put the book down.I don't know who the people were who showed up in this book. Eva a sassy, strong young woman of 24 turned into a needy, whiny, weakling who phoned in her robotic performance. As for Gideon, he was an alpha male who commanded attention with a cool, dark veneer and intelligence made even more enticing by his secret past and love for Eva. But, for this book, he too phoned in his robotic performance and became a two note of sex and violence. I was looking forward to these characters fitting the original title of the book "Deeper in You" because I thought that's exactly the direction this book would take the reader but it didn't even come close. This leads me to think Ms. Day herself knew this book wasn't going anywhere and therefore changed the title to "Reflected in You" because that's exactly what large parts of this novel were, a reflection back to the most filler parts of "Bared to You." It seems this book was written under the assumption people would read it without having read the first due to all the over-telling of places, events, and secondary characters. And yes I understand the reflection part is supposed to be Eva reflected in Gideon but I hardly find that to be true given she was an open book and he was a closed one.I want to say if you decide to take on a subject such as Child Sexual Abuse or any form of abuse it should be treated in a manner that is respectful and intelligent for those out there who have really suffered from abuse. It's not something to be taken lightly and research is required before putting information out there, yes even in a fictional book. This is the problem I had with "50 Shades of Gray" along with the general bad writing and plot, but I digress. I get that Eva and Gideon are victims who have been pre-disposed due to their abuse to use sex like an addict uses drugs - when they're happy, sad, angry, bored, lonely, etc. to feel good about themselves and their relationship. But, Gideon was made to appear like he was using Eva as his sex toy and Eva was just happy he would show up to use her. The scene in the limo was the worst ever - not romantic in the least. None of the repetitive sex scenes were what I would classify as "HOT." There was so much hair fisting in every sex scene I seriously wondered if these people would show up bald in book 3. And, while I'm on repetitive, Hello- raised/arched eyebrow is the new biting lip. Geez everyone's response to anything was always a raised or arched eyebrow - I guess this means no one in the book had botox.Getting back to plot fails - I read this book twice because I really thought I was tired and it wasn't as bad as I initially thought, but it was. There was so much potential here from "Bared to You" like Eva facing her own abuser and using her Krav Maga skills to kick his a** maybe even kill him in self-defense then Gideon would have to deal with a woman who took control of her own problem while being submissive in the bedroom - that would be something I'd like to see him work with. And, that would be a true reflection of him since I think he probably killed his abuser. There are many other plot fails, but the biggest is to bring in a non-descript character to run down the Cliff Notes of what happened to Nathan and for anyone who's watched one episode of" Law & Order" knows that was a complete fail and just plain lazy writing. If you didn't want to get into the Nathan thing why even put it in the story? It did nothing except make Eva look like a desperate women and Gideon a thug - not the refine "urbane" New Yorkers they've been painted as. Not to mention the whole "event" and most of the book was predictable from chapter 2.I'm going to be completely honest and say I feel like this book was dumb downed to match in my opinion the "50 Shades" series. And if that's true then this book was written for the money and not for the art evident in I paid $3.82 for "Bared to You" and this book is $9.99. Sad being picked up by a publisher killed this series. I would not recommend.

Audible Review: This is the same narrator from books 1 and 2. Overall, a good narrator. I don't exactly enjoy her Gideon voice, but I am very picky about that and it's probably a me issue.Story Review: While I enjoy getting as much of this couple as I can get, this is my least favorite book so far.Gideon and Ava spend the whole book pretending not to be a couple. You know why because of the ending in book 2. Personal preference has me wanting to read a couple together, not separate. As one threat comes to a slow close, a new one pops up with a reporter trying to make Gideon look nasty because of her own agenda. These past women in his life are annoying and tiresome. The worst is Corrine. My biggest pet peeve about this book was Gideon is still constantly catering to Corrine. I don't doubt his love for Ava and I do not think he wants Corrine, but he needs to cut her loose. It's disrespectful to keep going to her when all she wants to do is come between Ava and him. I don't care that he feels guilty. He shouldn't. Corrine broke it off with him and she made her bed.Ava still has Brett trying to get back with her and yet I'm actually not bothered that much by it. For one, Gideon deserves to feel what that's like since he won't cut Corrine loose and two, Ava is not encouraging Brett. In fact, she has been pretty insistent to him that she is in love with Gideon and he doesn't have a chance. Should she cut ties to a friendship? Yes, but why should she if Gideon won't show her the same respect. I am usually much harder on the female in books but in this instance, I agree with her.I enjoyed the ending but I hate that when a good thing happens a bad thing follows closely behind. That can get a bit tiresome, as well. I am, however, still looking forward to book 4.

I started this series years ago and really enjoyed books 1 and 2. I do remember this book being delayed and after awhile the series became another book on my TBR. So I decided to finally get back to this series and read books 1 and 2 again, which I still love. This book, nope, nada, no!I was annoyed 95% of this book. Eva lost her appeal, Gideon was acting shady, and the secondary characters were so annoying.Eva - I don’t understand why she lets everyone step all over her. She had no backbone and is not a strong lead anymore. She lost her appeal and her “zing” in this book. The whole Brett storyline was disappointing.Gideon - while I understand why he acted the way he did, he should of communicated better with Eva. His loyalty to Corrine was just annoying and unnecessary, especially at the end.Secondary characters- Eva’s mother was always annoying but somewhat tolerable in the first two books, but for some reason, she was downright insane and dramatic for no reason. I wished Eva would’ve put her mother in her place and kept her there instead of backing off. The whole not telling her father what happened was a low blow, but to then justify why her mother kept it from him was just stupid. He’s your father!!! He should have known. If anything he probably could’ve help with her mother’s actions. Clary, was just an idiot throughout the book. He was a horrible BFF, especially his actions in the second book. He is a hot mess who has no right to give any opinion on anyone’s personal life. He annoyed me and was so ughh...If I can describe this book with one word it would be childish. Everyone in this book was a child with adult jobs. No one communicated, no one had common sense, no one respected each other, and the whole back and forth was getting old. I’m disappointed in this book and will not read/buy books 4&5. The sparks between Eva and Gideon was gone. They played this back and forth game with Brett and Corrine that the appeal of their love for one another was lost. I can’t understand why or how they can put the feelings of their ex’s before each other. Between Gideon running to Corrine, who by the way disrespected Eva on multiple occasions and then had the nerve to kiss Gideon in front of her, was a WTF moment for me. After all of that, Gideon still would run to Corrine every time she cries. Why? Over some unfounded guilt that happen years ago. Then there’s Eva and Gideon. She knows he wants her back. You would think she would decline and break all ties with him out of respect for all parties involved, but nope! She instead goes on a “date” with him, goes to an event with him and make plans to see him on a weekend - huh! I can’t with this book or the characters. This will be the first time I stopped reading a series without completion. Usually, I try to stick it out to get to the epilogue, but I don’t think it’s worth it. This series had such high hopes and ugh... failure for me. So disappointing. Okay, rant over.

I am using this book for Georgia CRCT review for a ESOL seventh grader who makes high grades. Standardized tests are a problem for ESOL students because of the timed element and the inability to ask for explanations on English phrasing. I bought Science, Grade 7 (Spectrum Science) in conjunction with this book.

We bought this because my daughter's science teacher did not teach much of anything last year. The content is good, and it is more like a common core type of questions. Answers to these open questions are not alwasy good so parents or tutor has to be able to compensate.

Great

This is a great and powerful tool that can and will help your child to understand and operate on an above average level. Well worth the money.

Good preparation for SAT testing.

Good

Spectrum Books were recommended by my child's teacher. Now I can understand why. We home school and these books are great. They self teach and are easy to understand. They are economically priced which is rare in educational books. I find that every Spectrum Book on every subject is equally as great. Not only are they valuable to home schooled kids like mine, they also are great to tutor kids in traditional schools who may need a little help. I will never hesitate to buy any book under the Spectrum name brand. They are tops. However it's my nature to be picky, so here it goes, the only thing I recommend is removing the answers from the back of the book. All the pages have been conveniently perforated. Because if you have a child like mine, he'll discover this before you do and whiz through his assignments without getting any question wrong. I'll be buying these books for years to come. I love them and it will be hard to find anything better.

We are a homeschooling family and I simply don't know how we could do it without Spectrum! These books are wonderful not only as teaching books but testing books. They don't just test the children but they test me, their teacher, to make sure that I'm keeping up with their grade level, falling behind it, or the children need more of a challenge. I simply can't do without them and the children love doing the assignments and quizes (depending on the type of book you're purchasing) in them so that's always a bonus for me! Also, there's no way a consumer can beat their prices! Let's face it, educational books are expensive but with Spectrum I'm paying fair prices and getting great teaching materials. It's a win-win across the board!

I'm about 1/4 of the way through the audio version. It's full of great info. She clarifies that you can only have an unhealthy energy attachment to someone if you resonate with them in some way. Which means, in my view, to keep lifting up ourselves as the basis for everything. And, she talks about the concept that creative ideas exist independently and are looking for a person to land in. I write music, and I've always noticed how the songs seem to come to me from somewhere, like there's a song bank somewhere in the universe. This is the first concrete explanation I've heard. This work adds a valuable dimension for people who are interested in the energetic foundation for things. I could go on and on about the fascinating concepts. And, for the audio, she gives a good delivery. Not boring.

Denise Linn is one of the most amazing gifted teachers that I have ever met; so, of course, I had to get her book. While I am reading it, I am having memories of growing up in my childhood home. First, I must say that when I was 2 years old my biological father disappeared never to be seen or heard from again. My mother remarried when I was 6 years old. I did not find out that my new father was not my real father until I was 12. It was a shock to me. From the time my family moved into that house when I was 6 years old until the time we moved when I was 18, I experienced dejavu feelings constantly and on a daily basis in all areas of the house. These dejavu feelings were especially intense in the bathroom doorway and in front of the mirror at the bathroom sink. I knew I was seeing the woman I was in a past life. I knew everything about her, and even how she died. It was my secret, and I never shared it with anyone until I was an adult. I knew I had done some not so nice things in that lifetime, and that I had used my beauty in that lifetime to hurt men. I used them for their money. The whole time I lived in that house, I was bullied and made fun of at school, and I withdrew into myself. The moment we moved, my life changed; and I began to grow and evolve. My mother had many many books on her bookshelf. One day, when I was probably in my very early teens, I started looking at them. They were all about reincarnation. I asked my mother whose books they were, and she told me that they had been my biological father's books. It did not occur to me until I began reading Denise's book (and I am now 67) that there was an energy cord there that connected us, and this is why I was so connected to that past life. I know now that my biological father and I were in that past life together. I will be at Celebrate Your Life in Chicago in June, and I am taking her all day workshop. I will work on this in her workshop.. I feel like I have had an ah ha moment. Denise, if you read this, if we get a chance to talk, I will share it. Linda from Land O' Lakes, FL

I love this book! I am so grateful and blessed that Denise Linn wrote this book to share with the world. The tools she provides are really powerful and helpful especially for Empaths! I knew about energy cords in the past but Denise discusses in detail about energy strands in a loving, positive and non judgemental way especially with people we are close with such as family and friends. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is sensitive to energy and needs a tool to cut or release strands that no longer serve us. Mahalo:-)

Great book for basically anyone who cares about having a clean energy field! This book is just loaded with information from all different healing systems in regards to cleansing energy and releasing cords. Chants, mantras, visualization, angel prayers, this book has it all. I seriously can't recommend this book enough. If you're in the psychic/medium/energy healer profession, this is a great reference book.

Most informative section was just a reminder to look to oneself for any possible contribution to a negative attachment.

I have enjoyed this book from the first to the last page. Not only did I learn about negative cords I also got to know myself deeply.Thank you Denise for giving so much information on this topic and sharing life experiences.

this book is packed with condensed, detailed information regarding strand work ... string/strands/filaments attached to you at home/work/out in the world, psychic attacks, residual energy, energy vampires ... cutting/melting/flames/feathers/visualization/energy shields/protection and tons more. finished this on Kindle this morning and will purchase the physical book as well. Lots of New info - yes, some has been in previous books, but way more new stuff and everything is in one book ... so, now, I don't have to go through all my books. this is a treasure, for sure <3

I love all of Denise's books and oracle cards! I listen to her faithfully on Hay House radio. This book did not disappoint. I already feel lighter and more free. I know I will be reading it time and again.

A re-telling of the court case in a Pennsylvania small town where the school-board was taken over by ultra-Christians with the intention of including Creationism disguised as Intelligent Design in the high school Biology classes to counter "Darwinism." The author is a great grandson of Darwin who, obviously, was very interested and attended the trial and the machinations leading up to it in the town. The trial itself was a melange of expert witnesses on both sides. It was revealed just how deceit was used by those professing belief in ID as actual science. But all science relies on factual experiments, observations and conclusions and ID was found lacking in these science requirements that are needed to justify teaching it in ant science classroom. And so the judge ruled. The flavor of this book comes from the portraits of the townspeople involved in the contest and those who wished it would all go way because the trial had gone national because of the issues involved. Touches of humor spice the narrative from time to time. The book represents theongoing disputes about religion and science and the choice of what is to be taught in public school to our children: the Bible or science.

Film writer and director Matthew Chapman has a few reasons to be interested in the trial of Kitzmiller v. Dover School Board. First, he is a direct descendant of Charles Darwin. Second, he has written before on issues of faith vs. science (Trials of the Monkey). Third, he is the type of writer inherently drawn to exploring characters. This third reason is what seperates this book from the several others profiling the "battle of intelligent design versus science." As other reviewers point out, books like Edward Humes's "Monkey Girl" and Gordy Sack's "Battle Over the Meaning of Everything" may be more journalistic, this book explores the characters. Chapman seems to have a face-to-face with every major (and minor) player on all sides.Beyond this, Chapman himself notes, "One of my chief defects - or better qualities, I'm not sure which - is that I find it almost impossible to maintain animosity toward people with whom I violently disagree once I get to know them." (loc. 490, Kindle edition) No matter how judgmental and acerbic Chapman can be - and he is both, strongly pro-evolution - Chapman paints all characters in as fair a light as possible. (One of the best parts comes later in the book, where Chapman reveals the very human side of Bill Buckingham, the perjurer and hot-headed leader of the Dover School Board that started the whole mess. You almost - ALMOST - empathize with the guy!)If Chapman's book explores the more human Dover, it doesn't make for anywhere near the gripping blow-by-blow account of Edward Humes' or Gordy Sacks' books. Whereas those are very matter of fact and linear, this book jumps from spot to spot, intertwining scenes from the trial with scenes from the school-board meetings to philosophic rumination. The other two books are more snappy and journalistic in tone, whereas this one (for good or bad) is warmer in tone, which doesn't make for a page turner. In the end, Chapman's book on a well-trodden subject DOES manage to set itself apart form the others by focusing on the characters more than the others. With Humes,' and Sacks' book (I have yet to read Lebo's), I feel like I understood the trial quite well. With this book, I feel like I understand Dover quite well.

I became fascinated with the Kitzmiller vs. Dover trial nearly three years after Judge Jones issued his ruling. From a number of Internet sites, I read a great deal about the trial including many pages of testimony and 35 to 40 pages of the 139-page ruling in favor of the plaintiffs. But much of that information, while fascinating, lacked the narrative quality that a screenwriter like Chapman could bring to the story. I decided to buy this book along with Gordy Slack's "The Battle Over the Meaning of Everything" to fill in some gaps in my knowledge and to try and understand the roles played by the Thomas More Law Center, the Discovery Institute, and the members of the Dover Board of Education. I was very happy that I did.Chapman is a decendent of Charles Darwin; a great-great grandson, in fact. He is also a screenwriter and his method of telling a story borrows the flashback idea from the movies. Occasionally, he'll pull some piece of information about a past event and bring it into current time in a manner that can be entertaining but, at times, annoying. His writing skill is first-rate and he has the flair of a novelist. For example, he writes "If the plaintiffs' legal team was a well-oiled collegial machine, the defense was a dysfunctional family with a frequently absent father". You don't get the sense that you are reading an account from a daily newspaper with a quip like that. However, I sometimes felt that if I had not made myself aware of a good deal of the background information concerning this case prior to reading his book, that I might feel, if not lost, that at least I was missing something. For that reason and for the disorienting flashback technique, I gave the book a 4-star rating - his storytelling ability would be worth 5-stars in my opinion.I enjoyed this book a little bit more than Gordy Slack's, though they cannot be directly compared as they approach the subject in quite different ways. Slack sounds, at times, like a guy writing for the Huffington Post, rather than a former editor of a natural history magazine. I say that with affection. His chapter on "Assembling Goliath", the pooling of elite resources by the plaintiffs' team, made me feel like I was watching Eisenhower discuss the invasion plans with his staff. Chapman, however, went to the current event and filled in whatever background info he chose to as the narrative of the trial moved along.Read in tandem, the two books give you a good sense of the trial, the outcome, the implications for years to come. Each is a very well-told tale.

I wouldn’t recommend this book for exploring the topic of burnout in any real depth, but it’s a nice introduction for anyone who has no familiarity with the concept of burnout. The book is intended to be a practical guide to identifying the symptoms of burnout and creating an organizational culture that prevents it. I didn’t learn anything new in terms of symptoms and prevention strategies. While the suggestions for creating a healthy culture in your organization were sound, it didn’t account for the nuance or politics of an organization. The book was heavy on suggestions for self-care and preventing burnout (all of which I found to be unoriginal), but light on practical and thoroughly-considered suggestions for changing an organization’s culture. There were areas that were barely discussed which I thought could have made for really interesting conversation. For example, the role funders currently play and could play in the prevalence of burnout was merely a paragraph, but could be really thought-provoking reading. Also, generational differences in work style and self-care were barely mentioned but I think expounding upon it would have enriched the conversation.Overall, I think the topic of burnout needs more books that provide practical steps for prevention on both micro and macro levels. The most helpful part of this book were the assessments for evaluating your own burnout, coping mechanisms and healthy/unhealthy behaviors. I would have much preferred the book focus on this and take the shape of a workbook of sorts.

I love this book! Kanter and Sherman have skillfully applied best practices from the field of workplace wellness and talent development toward the rampant problem of burnout in the nonprofit world. Anyone who has worked in a mission-driven organization will surely recognize themselves as the authors aptly paint the picture of a burned out nonprofit professional. From here, the authors provide a roadmap to revitalize oneself through self-care, followed by a roadmap to revitalize the organization, dubbed “WE-care.” A great read and a fabulous resource packed with doable ideas that will help any nonprofit organization better meet its mission, and at the same time, enable its people to thrive.

My comments are featured in it so I'm biased. But I think the conversation is important. If you work in non-profit, we need to start a revolution of what this field can be. Overworking and being underpaid is not virtue. Its dumb. And detrimental to our health. Its important to have a life filled with joy as we fight the good fight in non-profit. I've worked in mental health for over 6 years. I love what I do, but not what its done to me personally. This book has bolstered my new path..

Beth Kanter and Aliza Sherman have given the nonprofit sector a real gift with The Happy, Healthy Nonprofit. Burnout in our industry is worn like a badge of honor - but it shouldn't be. How can you save the world if you don't take care of yourself? The authors' work mirrors my own findings: when an organization has a healthy culture, it thrives.

I got this book as it was required for a class. I was happily able to quickly skim through the book, as there is a lot of fluff with little actual information shared. The authors provide great self-care ideas for individuals in part I and then for organizations in part II. I think most of the organizational ideas are ridiculous (sleeping pods and toys for each employee???), but there are some that seem helpful if applied. It's pleasant in its entirety but I do not feel as though it was life changing by any means.

I got for my aunt. She's starting a non-profit. She loved it. The topics discussed are important for any non-profit manager to read.

What a great book! "The Happy, Healthy Nonprofit" should be on the bookshelf and within arms-length-reach of every nonprofit staff and board member. Nonprofits tend to see quite a bit of burnout not only among their staff, but also among their leadership level volunteers; I predict that the strategies in Kanter and Sherman's book will go quite a way toward resolving this issue, if they are implemented. My favorite part? The "Dog-Friendly Office Policy" on page 183.

I know one of the authors, but I paid for the book myself. This book it a must read for non-profit managers. The main message is that you can't really help others until you help yourself. This is a mindset that so many nonprofits need to master and this book has the strategies to help you do it.
