About the Author

Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984) was born in Tibet and educated at the great Sera Monastic University. He fled the Chinese oppression in 1959 and in the late 1960s, with his chief disciple, Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, began teaching Buddhism to Westerners at their Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1975 they founded the international Buddhist organization, the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), which now has more than 160 centers, projects and services worldwide.Nicholas Ribush is the founding director since 1996 of the Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive, dedicated to preserving the teachings of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. He graduated from Melbourne University Medical School in 1964 and first encountered Buddhism at Kopan Monastery in 1972. He was an ordained monk from 1974 to 1986. He helped establish Wisdom Publications with Lama Yeshe in 1976, established Tushita Mahayana Meditation Centre in New Delhi in 1977, and Kurukulla Center in Boston in 1989. Ribush was a member of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) board of directors from 1983 until 2002. He lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts.Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche is the Spiritual Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), a worldwide network of Buddhist centers, monasteries, and affiliated projects, including Wisdom Publications. This is a very helpful book for any Vajrasattva practitioner! The book explains specifically the sadhana written by Lama Yeshe but the essencial teachings are of course valid for any Vajrasattva practice. If you are new to buddhism I'd strongly recommend you to study and practice the sutra teachings, such as renounciation, compassion and knowledge on emptiness (which can all be found on Lamrim books), for this book doesn't explain the first steps of the path.

I wish I had discovered Lama Yeshe when he was still alive. However, I am benefiting from his teachings through his writings. He seemed to understand the "pressing" needs of Westerners...(I have to know it NOW.)...and gently laughed at our needs until we realized our true path.

Great guide for practice, invaluable advice of the great Lama Yeshe, wonderful, rejoice. Very detailed information on the practice, to be read over and over.

This book is an advanced work for experienced Buddhist practitioners in the Tibetan tradition. I doubt that other readers would get much out of it. It is like a cookbook, you have to do what it says if you want to satisfy yourself. And if you want to cook, you need the utensils. In this case you need to be studying with a lama, have received initiation and have some experience practicing in order to work with this book.The teacher of the text is in the Gelug tradition. I am a Kagyu, so that colors what I say. The author is very formal and rigorous. He makes much of what I perceive as minor matters (don't move your meditation cushion, keep it in the same place throughout your retreat). So I filter out some of what he says as not essential.I was practicing Vajrasattva when I bought this book and I wanted something to keep the practice fresh. This provided it.If you are practicing Vajrasattva, this book will be very helpful. There are also some things in this book that could be helpful to other practitioners.

This book contains everything one needs in order to achieve the preliminary practice. Without this book I would never have completed mine so I am grateful for the density of wisdom pertaining to this stage of practice.

To completely understand, this book is a must to get the foundation of Tantra. Highly recommend it to all practitioners.

I wanted to let folks know that I have not read this book (yet). The preface provides a clear and specific warning that the material is only for those that have completed Highest Yoga Tantra Initiation and I was able to confirm this with the nun at my local FPMT center. In typcial Buddhist fashion she didn't really provide a "rule" but did offer "it would be best if you waited..." sort of advice. As such I now have a ribbon around this book that says "read me when highest yoga tantra completed". I think this would be a good book for the generally curious and Lama Yeshe's writings that I have read are just amazing, but if you are making a purchase as part of your journey on the path it may be useful to you to be aware of the request Lama Yeshe makes in the preface.

I love this Author and do not like Simon and Schuster as they will not permit Text to Speech, their pricesare generally higher as well.

Ramesh Gaonkar is professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York. Only reason I bought this book was because it was the required text for the class. None of the questions have answers in the back and the software is only good for 30 uses. In my opinion, the purchase of the book should come with an extended or full software license. Absolutely ridiculous to have spend additional money after the initial trial!!

So glad I only rented this book. My professor has found at least 2 coding errors per chapter. Apparently, the editors of this book were out to lunch for the entire thing. The code, verbatim from the book, does not work in MPLABS. That was super helpful when trying to learn it. Great job, guys.

It is an excellent book.It is very easy to read and comprehensive.I like it, I recommend this book.

Gaonkar gives you a very detailed education in programming embedded systems. You learn that a microcontroller is really just a special type of computer, where you deal directly with the von Neumann architecture. The specific choice of hardware is the PIC18. Of course, by the end of the book, you should be fluent in writing assembler for it. But, more generally, the skills can be readily transferred to most other types of microprocessors currently on the market. Plus many that do not yet exist. The Neumann design is unlikely to be supplanted. It has existed for over 60 years, being successfully instantiated in succeeding generations of hardware.The book has many questions and assignments for each chapter. Along with a simulator for the PIC18 and exercises that involve programming for it. Realistically, many hours will be needed to tackle these problems. Which makes it well suited to accompany an undergraduate course.

It is historically accurate. It seems that many people try to interpret the book in a historical vacuum, totally ignoring what was going on in the world and the church at that time.

I just like his approach, even though I don't agree entirely with everything. I rarely agree with any author 100% in this particular subject but I always learn something.

Understanding the book of Revelation is not an easy task, but this book does an adequate job of presenting the author's views and theories on Revelation in an easy to understand and non-academic way. Non-academic is probably a big key here. If you are looking for a definitive commentary on the book of Revelation, this is definitely not it. But what it does do it does fairly well. There will undoubtedly be things in this book the reader disagrees with, and I found myself disagreeing with a lot, but I sometimes find that to be a good thing and makes me think about a subject.The book is inexpensive and is worthwhile to use as a Bible Study or in a group format.

This is a good study book to go along with reading Revelations in the Bible. It was used as part of my Sunday Bible Study class. It reads very well, and the author is exceptionally good at explaining this interesting part of the Bible. I recommend it to anyone who would like to better understand Revelations.

This is the best and easiest to understand explanation of the Book of Revelation I have read. What impresses me is that Metzger admits that some of the symbolism could be viewed different ways. He only suggests how to view it and never says it must be understood his way. (Most Protestant and just about all Baptist preachers want you to believe their interpretation is the right way!)

I grew up in a fundamentalist church, but am now Episcopalian. This book was used in a class at my church. It's given me new, very sensible, ways to understand much of the language and imagery in the Book of Revelation - as well as a renewed appreciation for that book. It helps to make the book's liberating, encouraging message accessible to 21st-century Christians.

What a beautiful book. It's a dense read and very relational algebra heavy. I don't have the proper math background to understand all the symbols and notation right away, but if you do, it shouldn't difficult to understand.Nothing really in this that would be practical from the average consumer standpoint, but fascinating if you love databases and want to see the logic behind it all. If you were building a rdbms from scratch today it would be helpful, but with all the options available, no one needs to.

This is the classic book for RDBMS theory, but you have to like to read math books. I am not sure if anyone still teaches the original Codd relational algebra notations today. We mostly jump to SQL with a little hand waving about the underlying principles. But it is worth taking a little time to study.

Chris Hart has a real knack for creating inspirational and interesting art lessons. Not only does he start you out with the basic shapes, he also provides notes and techniques to help you create a more realistic drawing. His imaginative story that gives you information about each character and their place in a fantasy society, can peak your own imagination and your interest in how your characters might behave in other scenarios. Chris Hart is actually creating his books for his children, and as such I highly recommend them for children from 9 up. However, as an adult, I have to admit I really enjoy them as well. So if you enjoy fantasy, drawing, writing and just being carried away to an imagined world of wonder, you will enjoy the drawing books by Chris Hart.

I sent this to a grandson whose in jail for armed robbery. He's a tattooist and I wanted to show him the better side of life.He's still alive in there, so I guess it's working.

They have a great time trying to reproduce the images they see. A little Juvenile for my own tastes, but good for them.

This is one of the unfortunate problems with ordering books online, you cannot see or look at what you are buying. I was looking for a good reference book and while this book is ok it is not what I really was looking for. Chris Hart does a terrific job with most of his books so it is not a loser just not a great reference.

George Jehn is a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree. He flew as a pilot for Eastern Airlines for approximately eighteen years, from 1970 until 1988 on the Boeing 727, Douglas DC-9 and Airbus A-300 jets. He left Eastern to work for another large airline in 1988. During his time at Eastern, he spent six years as an elected pilot Representative from Eastern's New York pilot base and was simultaneously a six-year Member of the Board of Directors of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA)

Based on the summaries I read about they book, I expected it to be a fairly rigorous examination of the reasons, chiefly economic I supposed, of the demise of Eastern airlines, which was one of the preeminent airlines in existence when I was growing up. Not the case. Its more of an exercise in speculation by an eastern pilot who has a very specific point of view. The book's focus is really on the crash of an eastern jet in the Andes which the author believes was the key reason for the airline's sale and subsequent demise. I was not convinced. Also, way too much pilot jargon. Not a keeper.

I remember in the news in the mid-80s of an Eastern Airline flight that crashed in the mountains in South America.I remember the news was short lived and there were no real conclusions to what really had happened.As the saying goes "Time heals",but time can also make you "forget". I believe in this instance this is the case.I was saddened by the facts the author brought forward. How haunting this must have been for George Jehn to live his life knowing and holding in all this truth.I always wondered why an accident of this magnitude had so many loose ends with no conclusions.I cant imagine the pain and anguish of the employees and their families by the decisions made by the people running the airline.This book is a testament for the people who lost their jobs and lives.I feel this book is a case of "Mans inhumanity to Man".I one day hope this story can be told on the big screen,for all to see what happened to one of the largest airlines in the world.The damage that was done to the families,employees and all who were touched and paid so dearly.

Having worked closely with Skip, knowing George and Charlie Bryan, some of the other key players during my tenure as grievance chairman of the Miami ALPA LEC, i can vouch for the accuracy of George's documentation and narrative of the pre-sale negotiations. At the time, the lack of investigation of the Flight 980 crash was overshadowed by the turmoil Borman created for diversion. There WERE rumors and newspaper reports of large scale drug smuggling aboard our planes. We were too distracted to notice either.What George doesn't mention is the hundreds of millions of dollars Eastern had in outstanding borrowing, and, having seen one of the loan documents, I was mystified that EASTERN HAD TO MAINTAIN A CASH BALANCE OF EXACTLY THE AMOUNT OF THE LOAN IN THE BANK THAT ISSUED IT! All the time Borman was moaning about the million dollars a day in interest he was paying. At the same time, most of our fleet was already paid for, which was subsequently brought to light in the bankruptcy proceedings. Little wonder that lists of bank board members and EAL board members is fairly repetitive.I and another pilot went all the way to the Supreme Court, without lawyers, in our fight to force Texas Air/Continental to live up to the Labor Protective Provisions they had signed. The Bankruptcy courts have no jurisdiction over Railway Labor Act, but they ruled in favor of the companies every time, (in the Eastern case), not only abrogating contracts, but also giving employees' retirement pay away to them. By the time, five years later, the Court refused to hear our case, even a dumb pilot like me knew the fix was in.Having proved the strategy, nearly every big corporation in America has used it to rob their stockholders and disenfranchise their employees. This is now the model of American business, and why, unless you are a one-percenter in on the scam, your standard of living is declining. Eastern's story is YOUR story.

I was a big fan of Eastern Air Lines and wanted to know what REALLY happened and who was involved in the loss of this American icon. George Jehn is a master of communicating in a sensible order and clarity of this very complex situation resulting in the downfall of one of history's great airlines. Kudos to Capt. Jehn for this Herculian effort. So many lives were irreversibly changed forever. George was there and got down to the nitty gritty of who, what, when and where. Certainly Frank Borman was key participant. His image has for ever been changed to the negitive due to this clear narrative.I highly recommend this factual account of how this huge successful airline was torn apart. Anyone wanting a career in this industry or is a fan of airlines would want to read this book. I recommend it as very informative and as such,required reading.

This narrative will be particularly interesting to anyone who is fascinated with aviation in the days pre-dating automation. Includes elements of Alaska bush flying.

I beleive Lorenzo shut down Eastern because of libility in that the pilots were trained going down to SA and not trained or observed on the trip North. I was one of the five checkairmen involved and was adament that training in the return flight was a must after consulting with Braniff pilots. The powers that be decided to save the added expense.
